Nike’s Pegasus Trail series is an extension of its hugely successful line of Pegasus running shoes, which has been around for several decades. A relatively recent addition, the Trail model features a sturdier build that can be used in more off-road situations as well as on the city streets. In 2022, it received a significant upgrade in performance with the release of the Nike Pegasus Trail 4.

Many parts of the Pegasus Trail 4 have been altered from its predecessor, beginning with the outsole. Made from a durable rubber compound, it has a new tread design that incorporates three shapes of lug cut at the optimum depth to deliver high levels of grip on a range of outdoor surfaces, with a big improvement in its performance on wet rocks. It also extends a little way over the front of the foot, thus protecting the toe from injury.

React foam has been used to form the midsole for a softly cushioned and responsive step, but it is also stable and lightweight thanks to its reduced size, which facilitates a better connection between the runner and the road.

The upper of the Nike Pegasus Trail 4 has also been enhanced with a more secure fit that makes it safer for use on uneven trails. It is made from a durable material that provides protection from abrasions and is covered in various perforations that allow air to flow over the foot, keeping things nice and cool. The back of the shoe is well-structured to hold the heel in place, and, when added to the gusseted tongue and Flywire lacing system, which consists of two strong lace loops overlapping for each eyelet, it creates a close fit for exceptional lockdown.

In terms of its visual appearance, the Pegasus Trail 4 carries a distinctive swoosh outline on its lateral side and a large Nike trail logo on the medial one. Another of these can be found in the centre of the outsole, and short lines of text show up across the design, including this motivational message on the medial midsole: “Just Do It - Reason Not Required”.

The Nike Pegasus Trail 4 builds on the benefits of its predecessor by adding several upgraded elements that make it an even more versatile running shoe. It feels great on the road and is equally comfortable transitioning to the trail, while its classy aesthetic ensures that the wearer can move from one to the other in style.
