Pegasus Premium

Nike has been innovating on its Pegasus running shoe for over four decades, and in 2025, the brand pushed the boundaries of sporting technology further than ever before with the Nike Pegasus Premium. This advanced piece of athletic footwear blends three powerful cushioning materials into one single shoe for a unique running experience.

To create the Pegasus Premium, experts were assembled from three different departments: the Nike Sport Research Lab, Nike Air Manufacturing Innovation, and the Nike Running team. Using cutting-edge techniques, they made the very first sculpted visible Zoom Air unit and placed it at the heart of the shoe’s midsole, where it provides incredible support along the whole length of the foot.

While most Zoom Air units are flat, the one on the Nike Pegasus Premium is curved to match the shape of the foot, and, as a result, engages its entire underside to deliver a smooth but powerful transition to all runners, no matter their gait. Above this groundbreaking Zoom Air unit is a slab of responsive ZoomX foam, and below it, a wedge of stabilising ReactX foam reaches from the heel to the midfoot. This unique combination of materials reaches a height of 45mm at the heel, with a drop of 10mm to the forefoot that helps to propel the wearer forward. Overall, it makes the Premium the most energy-returning Pegasus model to date, which vastly improves running efficiency and reduces leg fatigue so that athletes can go faster for longer.

Supporting this midsole from underneath is an extensive rubber outsole with waffle-style grip pads that produce excellent traction. Meanwhile, over the top, the engineered mesh upper of the Pegasus Premium is optimised for breathability and comfort. It has been crafted using a special circular knit that provides a soft, snug fit around the foot, with large perforations on the tongue and behind the thin layer of material covering its lower half. Alongside this, it features a gusseted tongue and a Dynamic Midfoot Fit system that ensures firm lockdown via an internal band which connects to the lacing. Subtle layering has been added along the sides of the forefoot, bringing extra protection to these high-wear areas, and generous padding on the heel, collar and tongue enhances comfort.

Visually, the Nike Pegasus Premium has a sleek design, and its mesh upper is decorated with moulded sidewall swooshes and a branded tongue label. A tag with Pegasus wings can be seen emerging from the seam at the heel, and other details, such as the text “BRS EST. 1967” on the eyestay, honour the heritage of the brand. The launch colourway from January 2025 comes in an elegant shade of white to provide maximum contrast with the vibrant orange that decorates its translucent Zoom Air unit. Underfoot, this is echoed with another visible strip of orange running through the centre of the outsole with the words “Air Zoom” printed upon it.

Throughout its history, Nike has developed a reputation for innovating, particularly through its proprietary Air cushioning, and this is summed up in the boundary-pushing Pegasus Premium. By bringing together some of the most advanced technologies the brand has ever created, this powerful running shoe both celebrates the sporting history of the Pegasus series and distinguishes itself as an exceptional piece of high-performance athletic footwear.
